OPPO Find X6 Pro Review – Perfect for object photography with a short minimum telephoto distance

OPPO Find X6 Pro

Rating: 4

I bought OPPO Find X6 Pro.

All three cameras are main grade

The OPPO Find X6 Pro is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered smartphone.

It has a 1-inch sensor 50MP SONY IMX989, and even have 50MP SONY IMX890 periscope telephoto and ultra-wide-angle camera.

Unlike the OmniVision OV64B used in the vivo X90 Pro+ and other models, the periscope telephoto lens has a shorter minimum focus distance and allows you to get very close, and autofocus is great, making it perfect for taking pictures of things.

This review is based on the 12GB+256GB version, PGEM10_13.1.0.115 (CN01).

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for high performance and power savings
  • Large sensors, all of which are equivalent to the main camera
  • 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging capability
  • Supports 50W wireless charging
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 port for video output
  • No region lock
  • Reasonable for the specs, but heavy
  • Camera functions are poor
  • Moon shot in auto mode is probably fake
  • Speaker volume is low and weak
  • Cheap accessories

OPPO Find X6 Pro

Instructions, protective case, charging cable and charger are included.

付属品

The charger is one port and unfortunately only 80W charging is possible in 100V regions.

A dual port 100W charger (sold at JDAliExpress) can provide 100W charging.

The included cable is short.

充電器

The protective case is of a type that offers little to no side protection.

Although it has a leather-like design, it has a strong plastic feel and lacks the luxury feel compared to the texture of the case included with the vivo X90 Pro+.

While I’m happy that the price was kept lower than the initial price of the OPPO Find X5 Pro, it is a little disappointing that the price was reduced by lowering the grade of the accessories even though it is a high-end model.

保護ケース

Brightest display on a smartphone, but not for HDR

The OPPO Find X6 Pro features a 6.82″ QHD+ 3168 x 1440 resolution AMOLED display.

It boasts a peak brightness of 2,500 nits with a whopping 2,500 nits peak brightness and 1,500 nits with HBM, the highest brightness for a smartphone display at this stage.

ディスプレイ

However, when I actually measured the brightness with the LX-1336B during HDR movie playback with automatic brightness adjustment on, the maximum brightness was only 789 nits.

It seems that the threshold of the brightness sensor is high, and when I wait for a while outdoors when displaying a normal all-white image instead of an HDR movie, the brightness could reach 1050 nits.

It is unfortunate that the bright display is only as good as a regular high-end model in HDR videos.

HDR

Turning on the Bright HDR video mode in the settings did not change the behavior.

LTPO and 120Hz refresh rate support.

Frame interpolation, which was supported on the OnePlus 11, the lower model of its sibling brand, is not available on the OPPO Find X6 Pro.

I think smooth video looks great only on a beautiful display…

ディスプレイ

It has diamond pixel array.

OLED

The total touch latency measured with the WALT Latency Timer was 30.4 ms.

Surprisingly, the touch latency is small, exceeding that of the REDMAGIC 8 Pro, a gaming smartphone.

タッチ遅延

Widevine L1 allows streaming in HD quality on Amazon Prime Video (beta) and others.

Widevine L1

The OPPO Find X6 Pro has an in-screen fingerprint sensor with good accuracy.

Smooth and silky back

The OPPO Find X6 Pro has a glass back in black and green, and leather in two-tone orange.

While the glass back is smooth and fingerprint resistant, it is slippery because it has less grip than leather.

If it is rubbed, it leaves white marks that cannot be removed without rubbing, so it would be better to buy the leather version if you are concerned about smudges.

背面

It weighs in at a hefty 221.1 grams.

However, it is great that it weighs about the same as the vivo X90 Pro+ with a large camera sensor and a 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging support, which is the highest combination in a smartphone.

重さ

Lack of tuning but good camera for object photography

OPPO Find X6 Pro has every camera at main camera level.

  • 50MP 1-inch SONY IMX989 camera
  • 50MP 1/1.56-inch IMX890, 110° ultra-wide-angle camera
  • 50MP 1/1.56-inch IMX890, 3x periscope telephoto camera

The 1-inch sensor main camera and periscope telephoto camera support OIS optical image stabilization.

OPPO Find X6 Pro

The periscope telephoto lens has a jagged shape.

ペリスコープ望遠

All photos were taken handheld and in auto mode and are saved here. Photos of the vivo X90 Pro+ for comparison are saved here.

The bokeh shape is almost elliptical, which sometimes results in a strange blurring effect, especially when shooting scenes with sunlight.

ボケ

The camera application provides buttons for 0.6x, 1x, 3x, and 6x, with 2.7x switching to the periscope telephoto lens.

While normal photo mode allows 120x digital zoom, for some reason it is limited to 10x in pro mode.

プロモード

Therefore, it is difficult to capture the moon’s surface even when adjusted in pro mode.

Although a 120x zoom in auto mode can take an overly beautiful photo like the one on the right, the moon that can be taken in auto mode is probably a fake, since the correction is also applied to the Gaussian-blurred moon photo on the PC monitor.

For all its big talk about “being able to take beautiful pictures of the moon and even people under the moonlight” with an eye on the moon mode fuss in China, it is not even satisfactory for taking pictures of the moon without processing…

月面

In addition to the zoom limitations in Pro mode, there are no useful shooting modes such as enhanced depth of subject (EDoF) or a mode to correct the perspective of buildings, which is available on the vivo X90 Pro+, and those who want to shoot in a variety of styles will find the camera lacking in functionality.

While other companies often have a separate moon mode that allows you to take fake moon shots, the OPPO Find X6 Pro does not.

If you open the photo in the Gallery app, you can use a feature called ProXDR, but it is not very useful, as it simply increases the brightness and displays a white-out effect.

カメラ機能

Macro mode is on by default and produces less blur than when it is off.

マクロ

HDR is weaker than vivo for night scenes, and strong light sources can cause white-outs.

HDR

Unlike the vivo, which tries to shoot bright anyway, the OPPO Find X6 Pro is a bit darker and has stronger sharpness.

The 3x zoom shows the text of the billboard logo clearly, although the details in the black grid are harder to make out than on the vivo X90 Pro+.

ズーム

In the 6x zoom, the OPPO Find X6 Pro has less noise in the “メディア梅田” area.

In the area of the “Y! mobile” logo, the vivo X90 Pro+ has less noise and the lines above and below the logo remain.

Details such as scratches in the pillar area seem to be slightly better on the OPPO Find X6 Pro.

6xズーム

The OPPO Find X6 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens has a short minimum focus distance and strong autofocus, making it suitable for telemacro-like shots where the user zooms in closer from a distance of about 25 cm.

The vivo X90 Pro+ has difficulty focusing and produces only blurry photos when trying to take the same photo.

Personally, I prefer the OPPO Find X6 Pro on this one point, as 80% of my camera usage is for taking pictures of things.

I have the impression that the OPPO Find X6 Pro is being pushed by the sensor size against the all-rounder vivo X90 Pro+, and I think it will show its true value if it is tuned in future updates.

物撮り

For video, 0.6x, 1x, 3x, and 6x all can capture video at 4K@60fps.

With image stabilization turned on, I was able to capture video with minimal shaking even when walking fast on a slope and shaking.

During video recording, you can zoom up to 6x when you start shooting at 1x, and up to 18x at 6x, but it is only a digital zoom, and the lens does not seem to switch to periscope telephoto.

If you want to take beautiful distant shots, you should start shooting at 2.7x or higher.

No region lock

The following bands are supported by the OPPO Find X6 Pro.

  • 5G SA:n1 / n3 / n41 / n77 / n78 / n79 / n5 / n8 / n28 / n7 / n20 / n38 / n40 / n66
  • 5G NSA:n41 / n77 / n78 / n79
  • 4G FDD-LTE:1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 12 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20 / 26 / 28 / 66
  • 4G TD-LTE:34 / 38 / 39 / 40 / 41
  • 3G WCDMA:1 / 2 / 4 / 5 / 8
  • 2G GSM:850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz
  • 2G CDMA:BC0

DP Alt Mode supported USB 3.2 Gen 1 port

The USB Type-C port on the OPPO Find X6 Pro is USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible.

It can transfer photo and video data at high speed.

Video output in DisplayPort Alt Mode is also possible.

映像出力

In addition to 100W charging, 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are also available.

It is said to maintain more than 80% battery life even after 1600 cycles, so it is expected to last for a long time.

バッテリー

Equipped with stereo speakers, but not symmetrical

The OPPO Find X6 Pro has a speaker port at the top, but it is actually a stereo speaker that is used for both calls and sound leakage.

The volume is low, and while the third level was sufficient for the OnePlus Ace 2, the OPPO Find X6 Pro requires the fifth level to be heard.

The treble is a little weak and the bass is reasonably strong, but the back of the speaker vibrates when the volume is turned up.

To be honest, the OnePlus Ace 2 sounds a bit clearer than OPPO Find X6 Pro, which is subtle for a high-end model.

スピーカー

The audio output delay was 34.6 ms when measured with the WALT Latency Timer.

オーディオレイテンシー

Bluetooth codecs are compatible with aptX Adaptive and LDAC as well as LHDC to a point, but LHDC is restricted to use with earphones not made by OPPO.

Therefore, when using LHDC-compatible earphones other than those made by OPPO, they must also support LDAC and aptX Adaptive, or else they will be connected via AAC or SBC.

The restriction that only allows the use of LHDC with its own products while the official specs list it as LHDC compatible makes no sense and is dishonest to the customers.

Bluetooth

Dolby Atmos (DAX3_3.8.5.20_r1) compatible, cannot be turned off during speaker.

Dolby Atmos

The volume buttons are located on the left side.

The power button on the right side has green accents.

Plaing Genshin at avg. 59 FPS is possible

The OPPO Find X6 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Geekbench 6 showed single-core 1535 and multi-core 5223 for the package name disguised version (=not affected by manufacturer’s incorrect boost) and single-core 1542 and multi-core 5211 for the regular version.

No benchmark boosting seems to have been performed.

Geekbench

AI performance measured in Geekbench ML with TensorFlow Lite/NNAPI was score 579.

ML

In the Wild Life Extreme Stress Test in 3DMark with disguised package name, the score was 3707 to 1683, with a temperature increase from 23°C to 44°C (21°C increase) and battery consumption of 14%.

Compared to other Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered phones, the stability is lower and the battery consumption is a bit higher.

Even though it is much better than the 8 Gen 1 and other 8 Gen 2 phones, the battery life may seem a little worse than other 8 Gen 2 phones.

3DMark

PCMark Work 3.0 (package name disguised), which measures performance in everyday use such as document manipulation, scored 11478.

PCMark

Memory is LPDDR5X, storage is UFS 4.0, and sequential writes and random reads in particular are quite fast.

ストレージ

When playing Genshin at the highest quality, 60FPS setting, and Sumeru with the frame rate stabilizer Ultra-steady frames on and measured with WeTest PerfDog, the average power consumption was 104.89 mW per FPS at 59.2 FPS.

As with the 3DMark results, the battery consumption is a bit higher than other 8 Gen 2 phones.

The battery temperature rose to 42°C, with the frame area getting a little hotter.

Conclusion

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for high performance and power savings
  • Large sensors, all of which are equivalent to the main camera
  • 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging capability
  • Supports 50W wireless charging
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 port for video output
  • No region lock
  • Reasonable for the specs, but heavy
  • Camera functions are poor
  • Moon shot in auto mode is probably fake
  • Speaker volume is low and weak
  • Cheap accessories

The OPPO Find X6 Pro has a finicky camera tuning at this stage and is not recommended for those who are looking for white-out-free night shots.

Even though it has stolen the exclusive Hasselblad rights from OnePlus, I don’t feel that the collaboration is helping much.

However, it is quite usable for telemacro-like object shots, and in some usage scenarios, the OPPO Find X6 Pro may outperform competing high-end models.

The sensors themselves are all good, so expect improvements in future updates for nightscapes, HDR, etc. You may want to look for a Google Camera Mod that you can use.

The OPPO Find X6 Pro is available in China from 5999CNY.

Revolut or Wise are recommended for payment.
